Bo-Kaap Cape Town

If you are staying in Cape Town during your trip, we advise you to take a look at the Bo-Kaap district. In this district, all the houses are painted in cheerful colours and is called colourful Cape Town. The district originated in the 18th century. Initially it was a district for slaves from different parts of the world. In the 18th century it was forbidden to wear colourful clothes as a slave. When slavery was abolished, this was exuberantly celebrated by wearing colourful clothes and painting the houses in bright colours. Every year after Ramadan, the houses are given a new layer of paint in the multicultural neighbourhood.
